If you do not wish or cannot afford to pay your parent's medical debt, be sure you do not make yourself liable for the debt. Carefully read any paperwork presented by a medical provider and do not sign it as a party responsible for the payment of services provided. If you do sign as the responsible party, you are contracting to pay that debt.

The local Area on Agency in the county where your parent lives can be a good resource for information and assistance.
