Legal Question in Business Law in Colorado

Defamation of business

I own a business and host torunaments in this business. A person in the same area has been slandering my name and also he put his tournaments on the same dates exactly and copied my format by offering the same services. Now in an email he has stated that he is doing this to hurt my business-he does not care if he loses money or I lose money but his intent is to hurt my business endeavor with malicious intent. I want to know if this is legal if he has stated he is doing this on purpose? I plan on posting other torunament dates and if he does the same thing on those dates can I do anything based on the law. In a sense he is saying bad things in email about me and now has copied all the same sates of my tourneys for the basis of not only competing against me but to try and hurt my business.

Is this legal what are my choices and is there anything I can do to stop this?

Re: Defamation of business

You e-mail had too little information about the statements being made about your business. However, if the statements were false, were made with the intent you ascribe to them, and were injurious to your business, and you can prove all of the above factors, then you may well have a legal cause of action against the person you mentioned for business slander / libel and / or unfair competition. I would need more detailed information to give you a more helpful response. Please feel free to either respond via e-mail or call if you wish more information.
