Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Colorado

For My Protection

I have a couple questions regarding being in a relationship

with someone up to 5 years younger than myself. Lets say she is about 14

years old, and I am 19. Is it wrong for the two of us to be in a

relationship together, even if both sets of parents don't mind it? This

is a non-sexual relationship, and neither of us are sexually active, do

to the fact that we believe in sex after marrage.

Is it wrong if we hold hands, kiss, and cuddle? Can this come against me

in anyway? I really would like to know this. I am currently not in a

relationship, this is for future reference more than anything else. I

just want to protect myself. I appreciate your time.

Re: For My Protection

Sexual assault on a child is when an actor subjects another, not his or her spouse, to sexual contact where the victim is less than 15 years old and the actor is at least 4 years older. It does not matter if the parents consent.

Sexual contact is touching of intimate parts or the clothing around the intimate parts. There are many varieties of sexual assault, including one that only applies if you are in a position of trust - teacher, baby-sitter or in some way trusted by the parents to take care of child.

The state prosecutes crime and does not care if the parents like you or not.

More importantly, if you continue in this relationship, you are at extreme risk of going to jail at the whim of a teenager or her parents until she is 17 years old.

The punishment if convicted is a prison sentence that is indefinite - up to life in prison. You have been warned.
