Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Colorado

What do I need to do to close out my recently deceased husband's bank account? He had no will and there is only about $500 in the account. We lived in New Mexico but his account was in Pueblo, CO.

Since your husband's estate is governed by the laws of New Mexico, you should first consult with the lawyer in New Mexico handling your husband's estate.

You may wish to use an Affidavit of Collection for the bank account is Pueblo if the account was solely in your husband's name. However, if you are the named beneficiary on the account that step would not be necessary.

Again, the place to start is with the estate attorney in New Mexico.
