Repo Collection - Statue of Limitations

Hello- Do to unexpected employment for a period of about 6 mons I was forced to give up my vehicle and have it listed as a repossession. The account shows charged off on my credit report...but i have recently started to receive letters and calls to settle the balance. I am unable to pay the balance. The charge off hit my credit in 04/06, how long can I be pursued for this debt?
