Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Credit card charge off

I had a visa card that charged off a balance in 06. I found out that they sold the account in 1/08 for the original amount. The company that bought it contacted me and has stated that they have added over $2,000. in interest on the account now and are sending it to an attorney. What can I do if they are not willing to settle at a reasonable rate? I am not willing to pay for something that I don't owe them. I know there are some SOL what are they and how do they work?

Re: Credit card charge off

The SOL is nowhere near yet. This is a common situation. You need to negotiate with the entity that bought your debt or take a hard-line and see if they actually sue you. Given the amount, any suit would likely be in small claims court if under $5,000 total.
