Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Florida

Hi, I'm a single mom, who recently lost her job, thus unable to pay a balance of 6,000+ on one of my credit cards.

What consequences can I expect? Can i be summoned by the court or be forced to pay any restitution on this balance?

The credit card company will eventually sue and get a judgment against you. Try, NOW, to work with them to work out a payment plan that you can meet and stop using the credit card immediately.

It will affect your credit, but feeding your kid(s) is more important than paying the credit card company. It will take them quite a while to sell off your debt to a collection company, and then a long time after that for them to sue you. They will offer to settle for a small fraction of what you actually owe. Hopefully before then, you will have another job and can make payments.

I wish you the best of luck.

Advice above is good. Remember, once you stop payment, card comp must sue you within 4-5 years or loss its ability to sue. Also, once you start paying, period starts all over again. If you are sued, contact a consumer lawyer who handles these types of cases. Good luck! Want to know the law without going to law school? Protect yourself against ripoffs?
