Legal Question in Criminal Law in Florida

I was charged with battery even though the police officer reviewed the video tape and stated he could not tell who started the fight. Since I was the one who approached her he stated I was the aggresor. I have a court date and am concerned whether I need an attorney. I have never been in trouble before and have a career, family, and do not want to spend time in jail

Considering the fact that you have a lot to lose (a career, family, jail time, etc.), I would highly suggest that you speak with a local criminal defense attorney in your area. A lot of times, an experienced attorney can get the charge dismissed before it goes to trial and/or can get it reduced. Also, if you've never been in trouble before, you may be eligible for the State's Pre-Trial Intervention and/or diversion program (whereby the charge can be dismissed against you after your successful completion of the program).

In other words, there are a lot of options and different ways that you can handle this case. Thererfore, I would suggest speaking with a local attorney.

Good luck,

Put simply, you need an attorney. A battery charge will follow you the rest of your life. Best to take care of it now. Feel free to give me a call at 727-528-1859 if you have any questions.
