Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Florida

Sampling Music

I am an music artist and have began to sample music that have been copyrighted. What are the steps I need to take to get promission to use them. I was informed by a friend that if there is enough variation in the finished sample than I do not need permission from the owner of the original source, however there are some area's were another artist's voice is used and recongnizable. What should I do?

Re: Sampling Music

I would contact an entertainment attorney in your area (i.e. www.easl.net) to consult with someone familiar with sampling, and copyright law. Federal Copyright Infringement is a serious matter, and you could be exposing yourself to statutory, and actual damages, especially since your sampling is recognizable.
