Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

I am having problems with my son who has been living with his dad for 7 years now. He is very nasty to me. I have been drug around by the nose by his father for child support which i have been paying and have also maintained medical coverage on our son. Our son has decided that i am boring and does not wish to visit me anymore. I am just ready to relieve myself of all parental responsibility as he continues to get in trouble with the law and because i never see him i have no control over this. Is there a way that I can give up parental rights along with responsibilities. Please advise... Amanda Bauer

yes, you could petition the court to terminate your parental rights. However, if I were you, I would take another look at this situation. How old is your son that he can get in trouble with the law. YOu can file a Petition to have this child placed under the Marchman Act in you have the proof of his law records. He is probably on drugs and can be tested. Your son is probably acting out because of your lack of attention to him. He probably needs counselling along with a more structured homelife. Have you thought about gaining custody of your son and having your ex pay child support and health insurance?
