Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

I leased a home for seven years. When we moved into the house, we paid first month, security and last month rent.

We were approached to renew our lease and declined the offer since we were buying a house.

My landlord then told me that I would have to pay her another 350 dollars for the last month of rent since she had periodically raised the price over the last seven years.

I needed a letter for my mortgage company to secure my loan stating that I did not owe any rent for the last month I was living on the property. She refused to provide this letter to me until I paid the money. I feel like I was extorted.

Can she collect the difference for the last month rent retroactively?

Thank you

Yes, unfortunately, she can. Pay the balance and receive the letter you need. If you would like to consult with me further on the matter, email me at [email protected] or call me at (813)951-6187.
