Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Florida

supoena process

I work in the hospital as Registered nurse and was

told that somebody was looking for me to serve supoena.

I was not at work at this time. Still have not received that supoena, but expect it to arrive any time.

I assume this supoena will be related to patient care I have provided. I have never received supoena, so

how should I handle this. When I receive supoena,

what should I do first ? Should I hire my own lawyer?

Re: supoena process

If it relates to your work, duties or responsibilities as a nurse for the hospital or medical provider who employs you, provide a copy of the subpoena to your employer's human resource department who should refer it to the employer's insurance carrier and attorneys for immediate review. Your employer or its malpractice insurance carrier should provide you with legal counsel to protect your interests if the matter relates to your actions or inaction in the course and scope of your employment. In an abundance of caustion, and assuming it's worth the expense, you may also want to retain personal counsel to confirm that your employer is taking care of the matter. Good luck.
