Legal Question in Social Security Law in Florida

Name change and social security number

If a person's name is changed legally, the social security number stays unchanged I believe. A friend did say our number can be changed under certain circumstances. Is she correct?

Re: Name change and social security number

The Social Security Adminstration will change a number in cases of identity theft, but I haven't seen them do it any other time. You can check with them to see if there are other circumstances under which they'll change a number.

You're correct that an SSN stays the same when a name changes.
