Legal Question in Family Law in Georgia

Childs last name change

My nine year old daughter has my maiden last name. I do receive child support from the father. I just got married and I would like to change my daughters last name from my maiden name to my married last name. Do I have to get the father's permission and/or go to court to have this done?

Re: Childs last name change

You will need to get the father's permission if he has parental rights and, if he is paying child support officially, then he has them. You will need to file a name change with the court along with proof of the father's consent.
