Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Apartment Debt

I broke an apartment lease almost 6 years ago after months of complaining about cockroaches and getting no help or relief. About 3 months ago, a CA contacted me saying I owed $1600. After not hearing from anyone about this matter since I left, I asked for an itemized bill, explaing exactly what I owed. They told me that I had to pay a certain amount or they were going to prosecute. I told them that I wasn't paying anything until I received the bill. They agreed to send one, but never did. Today I received a summons to appear in court over this matter. What are my options, if I have any at all?

Re: Apartment Debt

You still are entitled to a itemized bill and tgeh plaintiff can be required to give you one. In addition you may want to consider negotiating with the attorney to settle the matter. These kinds of cases can often be settled for a 50% discount.
