Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois

What is the difference between attempted murder and murder/intent to kill. My friend has been accused of attempted murder, the victim did not die; however, when we pull his information up it reads murder/intent to kill. Can someone explain this to me.

I'm not sure what county you're in, but Cook County does not put criminal case information on line. However, if this was viewed on line, probably the clerk who entered the information is either shortcutting or made a mistake on the charge. The indictment in the file will control what the charge is. The charge should read "attempt first degree murder with intent to kill."
