Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My wife is gifted money from her parents each year. She doesn't make much money on her own, but I make quite a bit. I just found out that if we were ever to split, she would get half our investments, but we would not split the gifted money since it's sent strictly to her. We don't ever plan on splitting, but I am a worrier and she won't need half of our small nest egg . She agrees this isn't fair. What's our best course of action without upsetting our parents? Can we sign a letter and get it notarized?

You need an agreement, not a letter, drawn up and signed by both of you. If you need assistance with that, call me at 312-372-5600.
