The restoration company had to many fans and dehumidifiers running on one circuit and caused it to overload in turn caused a fire in attic. caused little damage was extinguished quickly. new electrical work, clean-up and possibly new insulation. Insurance company wants to open a new claim for the fire, that was caused by the first claim. Is that right and what can i do?

Re: home insurance

Why do you care how the insurance company handles this if they are agreeing to cover the loss? Did the insurer choose the restoration company or did you? If they did then maybe they are now on the hook for the negligence of the contractor outside your policy. If not then it is simply another insured event. EIther way you seem to be covered.

One piece of advice is to make sure the restoration company uses a fungicide on the flooded areas to make sure mold does not grow.

Call me if you want to talk further about making the claim.
