Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

My landlord wants to take me to court for having my sister in my apartment while my sister was on the ban list. I filed a grievance for a meeting about this situation and I'm still waiting on an answer because I'm trying to avoid court. Also, my sister filed a grievance to stay off the ban list and was never answered back by the housing authority. They just kept her on the ban list without a grievance meeting. What should I do?

Sounds like your sister desperately needs a place. Contact the local HUD field office as to your grievance. Try the John Marshall Law School's Fair Housing Clinic - they do pro bono ("free") legal work. As to your sister she needs to make her own case because not only does she have her own issues but if the landlord is right, you could be jeopardizing your own lease because her status could give them the right to evict so there's a potential conflict of interest -- thus you can't do it for her unless she's disabled and needs help. She can try the same things. You may also consider letting your landlord know you're just trying to help your sister, and that you will have to contact HUD about a hearing if you don't get a meeting - don't make it threatening rather how important it is that you help your sister. PS you may NOT be able to avoid eviction if she's banned for certain specified reasons and you refuse to cooperate -- there's a HUGE WAITING LIST for public housing!!!!
