Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I am in the proccess of renting an apartment from an subsidized building. I have been approved but the problem started with confirmation of where I lived. After I went and got both leases from current and previous addresses and returned to them. They told me they will have to verify again! I even gave business cards. But I think the property manager is trying to give me a hard time. The apartment I was shown, she rented out stating that because she couldn't get confirmation of where I lived ....Now she tells me to wait three days and she will call me to come look at an apartment...I don't think she will, is there some sort of way I can get a lawyer to see if I could file a complaint. This lady is rude she hung the phone up on me, when I came back in to re-do my application, she tried to make me feel like an idiot, and talk to people like they are children...I just want the apartment since I was approved

Who oversees the building: federal, cook county, Chicago? Each has an agency to deal with these issues -- if you want to learn more about the process, or find out if the process you are experiencing is normal or questionable, you can start with the federal HUD which has a local Chicago field office: (312) 353-5680.
