Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Illinois

patient nurse harassment

I have been subjected to repetitive verbal abuse by a resident and have been caleed ''bitch'' everytime i render nursing care. This issue has been reported to the management for a long time and i have reported it recently and was told that hey coulnt do anything since patient is demented. So shall I just accept this reasoning? Is there any agency i could get tohelp me with this issue? Thanks so much!I wrote them a note stating my refusal to care of the patient to avoid further harassment. Do I have the right to do this?

Re: patient nurse harassment

I would like to know what type of facility you work in - there are many areas of nursing that may be open to you and if you cannot handle your current environment, you may be better off looking for work in another field. The problem is that this seems like something that just goes with the job. Perhaps you could speak with your boss to transfer to another floor/area.
