Legal Question in Consumer Law in Iowa

How long can accounts be ''reconciled'' and more money asked for?

I live in Iowa. I recently went to small claims as the defendent, and the award went to the plaintiff. I produced receipts stating that my account had been paid in full. The Plaintiff sued me, because her new manager had ''reconciled'' the books, and stated that I now owed her more money. How long does she have to do this? And is a ''bookkeeping error'' by her agent, the former property manager, something she can try to claim months after the fact? Is she not bound in some way to the previous manager's assertion that the account was paid in full? If not, what stops anyone from going after people long after an account was supposed to be closed and saying that individuals owe them more money? I would appreciate any help/advise as I am considering appealing this decision.

If the judgment listed the amount they believed you owed and you paid that amount, they should not be able to come back asking for more. An attorney can advise you on the best course of action.
