Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Kansas

I am staying in a home where the owner has passed away. The owner & I never made a contract and therefore I don't know my rights. The family and I had an oral agreement that I pay half the utilities and another roommate pay the other half. The other roommate took off with some of the utility money that I gave him and I haven't heard from him since.

I recently ask if I could have a roommate to help me and the son said yes. I moved someone in and now we were both told to move out immediately.

When I was gone the family went into the locked bedroom that I use and went through the closet, dresser, and nightstand. Also, the roommate was home at the time said she was told to come into my room and look at my TV. What can I do about this?

Obviously, the easy answers are to either move out or enter into a formal lease agreement with the estate of the deceased owner. If the owner was unmarried, and did not own the property as joint tenant with someone else, nobody really has the authority to put you out until they get authority from the Probate Court. Don't mistake this as freedom to use it however you like. You will be liable the estate or heirs for all the rent utilities and damages from the moment you learned of the death. There aren't enough facts here to advise you on your options. You need to consult directly with a Probate or real estate attorney, in your area, as soon as you can.

Good luck
