Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Kentucky

Need to change date of small claims court hearing

Help. My husband has been sued in small claims court (Kenton County KY). The hearing date has been set for August 28, a date he is supposed to be at an important meeting in Chicago. He cannot get out of this meeting; yet he needs to defend himself from this lawsuit. We caled the small claims court, and they stated we need a lawyer to get the date changed. They stated they will not change the date just because of business. Lawyers are expensive, but I guess if we need to hire a lawyer to get the date changed, we must. But we don't want to.

Re: Need to change date of small claims court hearing

If a claim has been filed and hearing date set, if one party does not show up, the other could be entitled to default judgment. I highly recommend you contact an attorney and discuss this with him or her.
