Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Maryland

I have a question regarding age discrimination in Maryland. My 15 1/2 year old daughter was shopping in a pet store by herself and was asked to leave because of age during her drivers education break. This store is located in Anne Arundel County. On another occasion she was in a Rite Aid Store in Baltimore County and was told by the manager that she and her friends would have to leave if they were not buying anything. Is this legal? Is there any recourse? Thank you.

While it may seem harsh, a store is likely within its rights to require that minors on its premises be supervised by a parent or guardian and/or request that an unsupervised minor leave. As far as the second store goes, a shopkeeper may legally prohibit loitering so a request to leave if no one was purchasing anything appears on its face to be legitimate.

Please keep in mind that the above is not legal advice but I do hope it gives a general answer to your posted query.
