Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Maryland

Time Limit fo Collection of Alleged Commercial Debt

In 2005 I was notified that I owed a small (under $260) debt from 1996. I disputed this debt in writing. Alleged debt now passed to new collection agency, who is pursuing this. Debt allegedly incurred in Maryland. I'm currently a resident of Texas. Believe Statue of Limitations in MD is 3 years and 4 years in TX. How long can they pursue this disputed debt?

Re: Time Limit fo Collection of Alleged Commercial Debt

You are correct on both states. The debt doesn't go away, however. It simply means that they cannot pursue a legal remedy. If they threaten a lawsuit they will be in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Act.
