Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

I have sole custody of my 15 year old son and visitation with his father is described as "liberal as determined by mother." I send my son on the train to see his father every other Friday night and he must be back home by 10:00 a.m Sunday morning in order for us to be on time to church. The father is threatening to take me to court for full-weekend visits (Friday nights to Sunday nights) which will cause my son to miss church on Sunday Mornings (I'm a believer, he is not). Can he do this? I have offered to allow my son to come over more often than just every other weekend as long as we don't have anything planned (we usually don't; sometimes there are six-week periods where my son is free to go to his father's house on the weekends), but he said that wasn't good enough and was an inconvenience because of the hassle it is to get him up early on Sunday mornings to send him home...

The father has the right to go to court to request a change in the visitation schedule, but at your son's age the judge will take his wishes into consideration. When he turns 16, he can essentially control his own schedule regarding visitation. You should try and work out something with him, but if he decides to take it to court you will just have to fight him there.
