can the seller sue the buyer for personal belongings abandoned after a short sale?

If there was an understanding between buyer and seller that buyer would safeguard the property until seller had a chance to remove it from the dwelling, then seller could make a claim. But abandonment of the property, as you described it in your question, would be a defense to such a claim.
