Legal Question in Traffic Law in Maryland

friend rides unregistered motorcycle

Friend rides my unregistered motorcycle. I had put an old license plate on it, planning to take it to get inspected, but he got caught riding it. The officer met with me and said he is going to write me a ticket - not sure what - but he made an appt to return to my home tomorrow. Any idea what he could write me for, since I was not on the bike and had warned the rider that the tag was illegal before departing. The guy on the bike only got written up for having no motorcycle license.

Re: friend rides unregistered motorcycle

Whatever happens - do not make any statements to the officer. If he asks you any questions, tell him to call your lawyer, and feel free to give him my telephone number. You could potentially be charged with many things including allowing a person without a license to drive a motorcycle and fraudulently using a registration plate from another vehicle. These charges may carry potential jail time, so I repeat, do not say anything to the officer.
