Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Massachusetts

Invasion of Privacy?

Can someone collect your public information and then post it on the internet? For example can someone search property records and post all the property you own?

Re: Invasion of Privacy?

Most of the public records are already on the internet anyway and are available to anyone. You may be able to sue under the Massachusetts Right to Privacy law if the alleged invasion was unreasonable, substantial or serious. I don't know that copying already public information from one website to another (which is what I think you described) would constitute such an invasion. For your reference, the law is MGL Chapter 214 Section 1b.

Under many circumstances it may not be a problem, and under other it could be. It may depend on the context and other matters that are added to the posting.

If you provide the additional information, I would be in a better position to assist you.
