Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Massachusetts

Settlement paid but lien was never removed

Lien was placed against my home due to issue between husband's business and office leasing company. Husband's business settled with leasing company but lien was never removed. Husband is now ex, lawyers for leasing company and ex-husband's business are no longer practicing law. I have limited documents from lawsuit. I have proof of payment of settlement and representative from leasing agency is willing to sign paperwork stipulating that the settlement was paid. How do I go about removing the lien from my property without incurring legal fees? Do I have any recourse against the law firms that employed the original lawyers? Lawsuit dates back to late 90's (not sure of exact date) and did not know lien had not been removed until tried to refinance.

Re: Settlement paid but lien was never removed

Call clerk of court and ask if proof of settlement is sufficient to obtain discharge of lien. Usually it is.

Send proof of settlement to lease company that filed the lien and request they send you discharge of attachment, and/or consult an attorney as to whether it will be deemed automatically dissolved if not re-recorded after passage of time.
