Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Massachusetts

stolen laptop

My daughter is a freshman in college . Her roomate left to go on a weeks vaxtion and left hervlaptop open and on her desk at school . During the time she was away someone stolethe laptop. The young lady blames my daughter for the theft. She never asked my daughter to put it away or even inform her that she was going away. So my daughter nevr touched her laptop, she just went about her business of going to class and etc. Is my daughter responsible in any way?

Re: stolen laptop

Your daughter could be sued but she never took responsibility for the thing; so she probably would not be considered responsible for its theft.

Blame without proof is like a tree without fruit. It is barren. To the extent that this woman falsely accuses your daughter of a crime, this woman is defaming your daughter. This is a couter claim.
