Legal Question in Business Law in Michigan

SMC membership

I joined SMC (Specialty Merchandise Corp), out of California in Oct. of 2008 and now want to cancel my membership. I would have to pay one lump sum for a one year memebership or month to month at 40.00 per month. Thinking I could cancel in any month if I paid month to month. They tell me I'm in it for a year with no way out. Because of the recession I am having no luck selling any merchandise, even over the busiest of holidays here in Michigan. Am I stuck for a year ?

Re: SMC membership

You would need a lawyer to review the terms of your contract and determine if there is a basis for alleging you were misled or not properly informed of the exact terms of the contract - assuming that it does provide you are locked in for a year. These kinds of companies take advantage of people simply trying to make an extra buck and most of the time, the company, such as SMC, is the only one that profits.

If you'd like to set up a consultation or send me your paperwork to review and provide an opinion, please contact me via email to discuss the legal fees and more details.

Thanks.
