Legal Question in Business Law in Michigan

Unemployment Benefits

Hello,

I left my job from an automotive supplier on 2-13-09 because the company was officially (announced by corporate memo) going to have permanant lay offs. The company offered voluntary severence packages for any employee who wanted them. No one knew who would be let go so I volunteered to take the severence pay and was then terminated. I submitted a claim for unemployment compensation 8 weeks ago and just received a letter stating that I left my job without good cause and am disqualified under MES ACT, SEC. 29(1)(A).

With the information I have provided , do you kow if this response from the Michigan Unemployment Office is accurate? Would you need to see the separation agreement in order to determine my eligibility? Please advise me if possible.

Thank you kindly in advance for your help.

Re: Unemployment Benefits

You would need to see the severance agreement. In many cases the contract reads that the severance is the sole remedy against the company.
