Legal Question in Construction Law in Michigan

Construction company did not complete work

I entered into an agreement with a construction company to do some repairs on my home. The construction company provided my insurance company with estimate of the repairs. My insurance company approved the estimate and sent me a check payable to the contractor and myself. The contractor did not complete the job. The contractor is requesting payment for the portion of the job that has been completed. The contractor wants to refund me the money for portion that has not been completed. However, the money that they want to refund me is not enough to cover the cost of the portion of the job not completed. I will not sign the check over to the construction company. What are my legal rights?

Re: Construction company did not complete work

If you have a contract with the contractor he must perform the work for the price he agreed to in the contract. If he refuses to finish the work you may able to hire someone else to finish the work and sue the contractor for the difference.
