Former employer owes unreimbursed expenses

Last two expense reports submitted were not paid by employer after employment seperation. How can these expenses be collected? What is small claims limit in Michigan? Amount owed by employer is aproximately $2500.

The small claims limit in Michigan is currently $3,000. You may file suit in either general civil court or small claims court, which is a devision of the general civil court. You cannot have an attorney in small claims court, your appeal rights are limited, and a jury trial is not available. Should you require assistance, please contact me at www.lawgreg.com

Small claims limit is $3,000.

You may want to consider making a written demand upon ed-employer - have the post office give you a "receipt of mailing" - give the employer something like 14 days to make payment, and if they don't - file in small claims court.

Remember that the employer could either appear in small claims court, or have it removed to district court and have an attorney run the case for them.

Just be prepared to have all the receipts itemized in your demand (and the affidavit and claim report filed with small claims court) and attach your certificate of mailing.

Good luck,
