Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

I have a ten year old from a previous relationship. We were never married, paternity was established, he was supposed to pay child support over the years, but hasn't. I'm not real interested in persuing it though. i have been with my current boyfriend for a while and are planning on getting married, he would like to legally adopt my child. We are unsure how to persue the father of my child signing off his rights in order to do this. I am afraid that he will refuse even though he hasn't wanted to see the child in about seven years. Is there any help out there for us?

There may be help out there for you. We have been involved in terminating the rights of a father that has not visited and/or paid support for years.
