Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Michigan

personal liability

I am a driver's ed instructor for a private company and get paid as a 1099. I am just curious as to if I could be held personally liable for an accident/damage if it occured. The private company is an LLC and has insurance, but could a person come after my personal assets since I am considered self-employed (1099).
