Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Michigan

30 Days Notice to Landlord

My landlord lives in South Carolina and I sent him a registered letter that I would not be renewing my lease. I had to notify him of this by Sept 25.

They have left him 2 notices but he has not accepted or picked up my letter. he is probably trying to force me ito another year lease.

I have proof I notified him in writing, am I covered?

Re: 30 Days Notice to Landlord

Keep the proof of attempts, and/or a printout from USPS of the attempts, as well as the letter when it is returned to you. It appears that you have provided to your landlord a reasonable notice intended to inform them.

I personally would recommend to my clients that they send a standard first class letter now with the same information along with the evidence of prior attempts on the certified letter. While that is not absolutely necessary I feel is is a safer practice as well and well worth the $.42 to avoid a later challenge.
