Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Michigan

We have vacation property. Previous owners lived there full time. On our taxes the homestead or primary residence was not changed. Now the county is going after us for back taxes. I am sure we gave them the info at time of sale. What can we do about this. The charges have gone from $300. up to $600 or more.

Pay the taxes - you are legally obligated to pay the taxes at the appropriate rate, even if the status wasn't changed at the time of the sale.
