statutory rape

do statutory rape claims have to be proven?? can a simple phone call to the police put someone away for statutory rape???

No. Prosecutors and police officers will perform a full investigation, unless the perpetrator admits to having sexual relations with the minor girl. They take into consideration the strength of the evidence before deciding whether or not to press charges, and then if they do press charges, it is up to a judge or jury to determine if the evidence supports a finding of guilty.

If sexual intercourse can be proven in a statutory rape case, that is all that needs to be proven, as there is no legal defense to statutory rape.
