Legal Question in DUI Law in Minnesota

DWI and entering Canada

I had a DWI 18 years ago and plan on going to Canada on a fishing trip later this month. Will I have a problem entering? If so, what measures can I take to avoid problems? Is there any way to get the DWI off my record?

If your dwi shows up on the computer, the Canadians won't let you into the country. Often, however, in my experience they don't check. They just look at you and your identification and you go on in.

Detailed info on this problem can be found at the web site of the Candian Embassy in Washington: http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/can-am/washington/visas/inadmissible-en.asp. They have intructions about getting either a pardon or a permit to enter the country.

Good luck.

FFI see web site of Canadian government:

I recall there is a way to make an "rehabilitation" application with payment of a fee, and become admissible despite your DWI conviction. See above website for info.

AS for getting a DWI conviction off your record in Minnesota, it is extremely unlikely you will be able to do this.
