Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

I left the U.S. In 2004. When I left, I left without paying my phone bill. I came back to U.S. in 2014. Last week I got a call from a collection agency regarding my unpaid phone bill from 2004. I also received a letter from them saying I need to pay them $8000. I haven't replied to them yet. I know there is a statute of limitation for collection of debt. I was in Texas back in 2004, now I live in Missouri. Can they sue me over this since its been 11 years now? Does me having been out of the country have any effect on the Statute of limitations? How should I proceed with this matter?

Thank you.

Being outside the country can toll (suspend) some time limitations. If they did not sue and then unsuccessfully try to have you served, it us unclear how they might claim the tolling. You should consult directly with a civil practice attorney. You may need one licensed to practice in Texas.

Good luck
