Legal Question in Traffic Law in New Hampshire

Attorney Didnt Represent Me & Sent Bill

One of the Attorney whom I contacted from Yellow pages sent me a bill of $400 for a case which he didnt follow through (Speeding Ticket) nor represent me in Court .

The agreement was I pay a fixed sum of $400 once he clears me of my ticket & represent me in the Court. 40days prior to the court date, He sent me 2 letters & a copy of the Violation report. I asked him to find a settlement & get the ticket dropped.

I didnt here from him after that I called his office several times but never got a response & finally I sent him a email One week before the case telling him not pursue this case any more.

This was my first Ticket in 8year driving history. I spoke to the Prosecutor & got the Speeding ticket dropped by doing safe driving course & community service .

I dont want to pay this lawyer, it was a verbal agreement only & How can he Bill me at the rate of $175 per hour. Can I ignore his Bill or Should I be paying this Lawyer - Please Advise.
