Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New Jersey

hi. i signed with my name, a document to get a caregiver for my mom, after i signed it a few weeks later, a friend told me i should get poa, because my mom could not care for herself or make dicisions without getting upset, she understood what was going on , but had a hard time deciding. i got poa, and now mom is in a nursing home, has run out of money to pay caregiving co. and now is sueing me for the money. can they sue me does poa help me?
