Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New Jersey

I have a tenant on a short term rental ( vacation beach front) and he forged a cashier's check for $12,000.00. My broker wants me to pay 1/2 of it. Please advise

I can't think of any reason why you should be answerable for your tenant's forgery. If the check was for your account, it is you who has been injured. The broker's responsibility is to find a tenant who is ready, willing, and able to pay. It doesn't look like he did that.

Assuming you mean that the tenant counterfeited a cashier's check, you should report that to the bank on which the check was drawn and to the police. That is a crime and law enforcement authorities will be interested.

It sounds as if you have a cause of action against the tenant. My firm handles matters of this type. If I can be of further help to you, call or email.

I totally agree with John, although your facts are skimpy, as you do not decribe what the check was for, to whom paid, etc.
