if i use a logo that is not copyrighted and i change the lettering and change the picture is that ok

Logos are commonly trademarked and I am curious as to the nature of the logo and your access to it. Without additional information, my safe advice to you would be to treat it as trademarked or copywritten work and make sure the image you are creating is not "substantially similar" to the original version that you are basing it off of.
