Sueing someone from another state

I live in New York & would like to sue

someone who lives in Florida for money I

loaned him during the summer. Can I sue

him in a New York Civil Court suit.

This involves a concept known as personal jurisdiction, too complicated to explain here. There are ways to do this, but if the case is about a small loan from a non-resident with no other NY contacts, you will probably have to sue in Florida.

You can sue here and try to enforce the judgment in Florida, but again I would look into suing in Florida.
