Legal Question in Consumer Law in New York

Hello,

2 yrs ago, I heard about a voice reporter [ same as stenography- just using voice technology ] training school, and called them up for details. They directed me to their site and answered all my questions- they even set up a meeting with me in their offices, etc...

The owner of this school happens to also have a court reporting agency- a BIG one- and also a stenogrpher school- also a big one. he personally told me that he does not understand why someone would go to steno school if they could rather study voice reporting. They said they would hire a teacher for three girls- each would pay 20,000 dollars, and the course would be about 5 weeks long, mon to thurs for about 4 maybe 5 hrs. ALOT of money, but we were reassured that we would be able to make that money alone in the fist 8- 9 months easily in their agency, and eventuallly make much much more.

I took the course, internerd for a few months, passed the agency test, and got ready for work.

I have, over the course of 2 years being available for work, received about 11 jobs, making altogether 1,600 dollars, despite being available for work always!

This is after spendin 20,000 dollars straight up- and having interned for no money at all for 6- 7 months.

Turns out, there are no agencies besides this one that hire voice reporters.

this agency is of course blaming things on the ECONOMY.

If you look at their site, though, they are still advertising the course!!!!

with the same promises!!!

There were 2 others in my class with the same results and more girls from other classes. What can we do, if anything???

I really want my 20000 dollars back, and i also feel I lost 2 yrs worth of work money, etc... I beleive my loss is easily worth 60,000 dollars.

Do we have a case ???

Is it worth pursuing???

I have much more info if you need it...

Thank you.

If the facts as you describe them are accurate, it sounds as though you may have a decent fraud claim against the 'school'. If you could get the other two classmates on board, your case would be even stronger.

If you would like to discuss this matter further, please contact my office.
