Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in New York

Wrong Amount

I was charged on a credit card in advance for a dental bill but then never had the work done. they wouldnt reverse the charge til insurance paid. by the time insurance paid the credit card sent the bill to collections because i refused to pay on it. The dentist sent a reverse charge and the credit card accepted it but never disclosed it to the collection agency now the collection agency is still trying to collect the full amount plus $200 more they have added on top. The collection agency is threatening to send it to an attorney if not paid by 12-21-2006 what do I do? I dont want to pay for a bill that isnt mine!

Re: Wrong Amount

get all the info from all the parties and send it to the collection agency with a certified letter sying that if they continue to bug you over this matter you will sue them for harrassment. If they give it to an attorney, send the same letter (certified mail) (with the same documentation) to the attorney.
